The Purple Flowers
HYDRANGEA:
Hydrandea: Endless Summer (a Mophead Hydrangea Variety) from my front yard. The plant was picked up at the nursery by my daughter, as the pink, purple & blue blooms all together in the same plant fascinated her. We planted this 3 years back & have been having joyous blooms from April to November. So far it has been easy to maintain inspite of the tremendous Texas heat. We have planted it in the shade & have to water it twice a day when the temperature goes beyond 100 degree F.
See all that different colors in the same plant!
“Endless Summer The Original has the unique ability to produce spectacular pink or blue blooms depending on the pH makeup of your soil. An alkaline soil produces pink flowers, while an acid soil produces blue flowers (you can buy a soil pH testing kit to test your soil). It is possible to manipulate the color of hydrangeas…” (Source)… Read more about Hydrangeas.
IRIS:
This isΒ Purple Iris is from Dallas Arboretum. “Iris is a genus of between 200β300 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species.” (Wiki)
The plant & the flowers were gigantic compared to the to the other Iris which were about knee high. It was taller than me ( I am 5’2″).
The first & the third photos are my entries for Purplicious. This is a Flower Fest hosted by Manisha of Indian Food Rocks! The color is Purple.

A Big Thanks and big good Morning for this ravishing purple sight..Nature is the most valuable peace in any humans life, which most often we are not realising..
We have enough of Hydrangea at home..As i love lilac in general,i used to be selctive in color..We had a dark lilac flower called “Shangupushpam” which looks oyster shaped ..Thats a nostalgia for any Malayalee I think..and can see in most of the fences like in villages..Dont know the sceintific term though.
Thanks a bunch for bringing back memories of childhood..Have a great Day !!
Ha,Soma, the Sanghupushpam I mentioned may be known as “Aparajitha” at your place..Clitoria ternatea.
yes I love the Aparajita! Thanks for finding out the name.. we used to have it all over at home, creeping over the walls & gates. they are also called the “flower of paradise” sometimes.
Btw,Great clicks and super entry for the event..!!
wow what a beautiful clicks very perfect entry.
Great pics and good to know hydrangea grow well in Tx heat. I have always loved these flowers but did not know they did so good out here. What nursery did you get them at?
We bought it from Classic Gardens. But I have seen this variety in Home Depot & Lowe’s too. Costco & Sam’s keep hydrangeas, but haven’t seen this particular variety. First 2 years were tough, they had to be continuously watered even if it does not get direct sun light… Planted it right where the porch ends, so there is shade most of the time. this year it is doing way better.
Beautiful and awesome clicks..very pleasant to eyes!
I love flowers and I have this Hydrandea in my garden but it is not easy to bloom maybe because of the hot weather.
