A tiny Tea Party – Black and White Wednesday
“There is a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colors are brighter, the air softer, and the morning more fragrant than ever again.” ~ Elizabeth Lawrence
A couple of weekends back we were in Houston, to meet my old college friend. My girls and my friend’s girl teamed up with another friend to have a “Tea Party”.
Here are some photographs among the whole lot I took while I stood there; amusing myself with the frequent spills of water (their tea) and crushed ice (their sugar cubes). I had the opportunity to stand by and soak in every moment of it and to take photographs, while my friend prepped for lunch and also attended to the kids. This is probably the first time ever, that I stood there as an “observer” and not as a mom, running to the needs, and call of chores; the time I totally relished, that I could be free of all thoughts and just enjoy the little play. Thanks to my friend, she took care of all, and gave me this gift of time…
The simple things that the children find joy is a source of inspiration for me; a lesson to live life without complications and to live at the present as if the next moment does not exist. The spontaneity of their actions, the passion in all that they do, their ability to make friends without too many questions asked and the ring of the laughter from deep within their hearts so beautifully defines how we should walk through this journey called Life.
Each one takes turn pouring out the “tea” very very carefully…
and finally when it gets to her, while she patiently waited, the “tea” in the tiny pot was all gone.
A look of disappointment…
Can I have some more, please??
What are tea parties without cookies?
and they were edible and real.
The “Cheers” were not forgotten, even though it was at the tail end of the party and with empty cups too.
The last drop…
and the last sip.
The laughter and the giggles are precious and infectious with a chime and emotion which only the children are capable to arouse.
They are the ones that makes life worth living.
Some of the photographs are being sent to Susan’s Black and White Wednesday

Beautiful! I love this post…the pictures are stunning.
oh wow!!! This post made me all nostalgic and took me back to my childhood. I loved that cute tea set and the cute expressions on the girl’s faces 🙂
My DD has that same tea set. She’s outgrown it now I think. She still asks about doing a real tea party that we did with her when she was 5, though. We took her to a little tea house out in the country and they had all kinds of props, like hats and feather boas, to wear as you drink your tea and ate scones. So much fun!
Fun time…:) great pix… your little one has very expressive eyes…and of course you captured them on time… 🙂
Oo this is such a sweet post Soma! I love it.. And you’re so right; the innocence of childhood is just so good and wonderful to watch. love the shots!

That reminds me of the china tea set I had when I was about their age. What fun and how wonderful that you captured the moment.
Awww!!! so cute. They are so into the whole tea party.
We used to play this way when I was a kid. We lived in a huge housing complex of 90 homes and on an average there will be 15 kids around same age group playing in gangs. We used to play games like cooking with mock utensils, serving mock foods and pretending to eat them and complimenting just the way elders would talk to each other. I am reminded of my childhood days. Gosh – sounds so silly yet those memories will make a story for my next post he he 🙂
What lovely tea sets and such cute cookies. I adore your photographic skills. =)
